How Paul marketed church?

Hi

I'm still busy reading Church Marketting 101 - it is excellent.

It is now talking about how Paul adapted his approach to suit his audience. We know that (in 1 Cor. 9:20-22) Paul said "and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law..."

Paul put people into categories - grouping people with common tendencies together. We know that not all Jews are alike, not all people have the same weaknesses, but Paul was aware that not all people view the gospel from the same perspective, but some people think alike or have a similar perspective. His grouping (in his letter to the Corinthians) is based on ethnicity (Jewish background), spirituality (under the law), lack of spirituality (without the law) and their needs ('the weak').

In Acts, Paul uses this to excellent effect. Look at Acts 17:22-24. He says "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD." (NIV).

Instead of being critical about them worshipping so many Gods, he opens their hearts (and ears) by complimenting them. He then goes on to tell them about the one true God ("Therefore, the One who you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it".

It has made me think.

Rocket Man

I have recently come to Face Book (following a meeting of Christian Men in Warwick - when we decided that we needed a better way to keep in touch than an annual meeting!). Well, I have now had a couple of funny comments about the photo I posted.

When looking for a photograph of myself I realised that not many existed - most of my photo's are of my children. But hidden away on my phone were a couple of clips from earlier this summer - on a rare sunny day, when we went to try and launch a rocket.

There are two clips - but I have only uploaded one so far. This one shows the rocket taking off fairly quickly - but not that high! The first one is three and a half minutes of the rocket completely failing to take off. It is a bit like watching a still photograph.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this one- and let me know if you have got on any better.

What if Starbucks marketed like the church?

There is a great blog - which I could not do justice to by writing about it - run by beyond relevance. You can see it here http://www.beyondrelevance.com/

and watch their excellent video

Watch the video, think about it, wathc it again and read the blog.

I am also reading the book -ChurchMarketing 101, which is also excellent. Its a bit like the guidebook to the video. I got my copy from eden.co.uk, but I am sue that most bookshops would be able to get a copy.
Our church is about to embark on a visioning day. I came across this presentation earlier today about one church - this one happens to be in America - and how they communicate their vision. It is one of the best church ones I have seen.
